Crime And Zero Tolerance.

The last few weeks has seen some horrific knife crimes in London in the UK, which has resulted in the tragic deaths of a number of innocent young people.

When we talk about what we can do to combat these crimes there seems to be a collective shrug of the shoulders.
Many believe there is no solution to these crimes, and if they see any sort of criminal act occurring, they simply walk on by and do not get involved.
But this runs to the very heart of the problem. If we collectively cared and took action then life would return to something approaching sanity again.

There are a number of measures that could be taken immediately which could cut violent crime drastically in a short space of time.

1. Zero tolerance of anyone carrying an offensive weapon, such as a knife or a gun, resulting in a mandatory jail term.

2. A crackdown on the Mr.Bigs of the drug world, target the main suppliers of hard drugs to get them off our streets.

3. Make prison unpleasant in the extreme to violent offenders so that they will not treat their time inside as a holiday. Ally this to an education program they must attend when they are freed.

4. Rid prisons of drugs by more searches, drugs tests, security etc. The fact that many of our prisoners are coming out of our jails with serious drug addictions is a disgrace.

5. More visible police presence 24/7.

6. People given more powers to fight back against violent attacks, along with powers to detain them.

7. An educational program in all schools showing the value of good citizenship and the dangers of knives and guns.

8. The glamourising of knives and guns in the music, arts and the media to be banned.

Too simplistic. There are no Mr Bigs, that's tabloid sensationalism, and anyway, drugs aren't the problem, they cause petty crime like shoplifting. Violence is to do with the lack of parenting, passing from one generation to the next, and the culture of black youths who know they will fail in school, who lack prospects and get their sense of identity from belonging to gangs and watching rap artists and violent movies. That's a whole cultural thing imported from the US; the pornography of violence, and how you turn that around is anyone's guess.

I agree, Too simplistic a view. The government has racheted up their ability to remove the rights of the citizens under the pretext of 'keeping us safe' from imaginary villians for long enough as it is. There are places in the world where people carry guns and knives as a normal practice - simply because there exists the moral fiber and backbone within that particular community or country for the use of such weapons to be purely defensive. I work in an average secondary school in the UK and see daily the mindlessness and moral emptiness of this generation, their parents are often the same. Too many generations of moral debauchery have occurred revolving around alcohol, sex, drugs, music, TV, money, Interest (Usary) and a general lack of self responsibility and regard for others. The solution......?
